”As a medical oncologist and Chief Medical Officer at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, I was especially proud to see that Dana-Farber received the highest patient-rated nurse communication score among the nation’s 11 dedicated cancer hospitals, based on CMS HCAHPS data.
What makes this recognition particularly meaningful is that it reflects the experiences of our patients and families.
Communication is one of the most important aspects of caring for patients with cancer. During what is often one of the most difficult times in a person’s life, our nurses help patients and families understand complex information, answer questions, ease fears, and provide reassurance with empathy, compassion, and respect.
This recognition reflects not only the excellence of our nursing team, but also the collaborative culture across Dana-Farber. Outstanding patient communication is truly a team effort, and I am grateful to work alongside colleagues who place patients and families at the center of everything we do.
I am especially grateful to our Chief Nursing Officer, Anne Gross, and our nursing leadership for fostering a culture where exceptional communication is recognized as an essential part of exceptional cancer care.
