Corina Van Den Hurk, Senior researcher on real-world effectiveness of healthcare interventions at Santeon, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“An amazing inaugural conference of breast cancer survivorship and supportive care in Toronto organised by Muna Al-Khaifi and Jennifer Jones. It highlighted the numerous facets, disciplines involved, great achievements but also unmet needs of survivorship.
Excellent patient partners shared their touching stories, setting the scene to discuss the work that still needs to be done to improve (models of) survivorship care. Too many to list.
‘We had the same therapy, same assumptions, but the lived experience is totally different’.
Hair loss (and scalp cooling) included in this picture.
We visited the world famous Princess Margaret Cancer Centre with our tour guide Henry Wong. And ended the trip with some Xmas shopping with Melissa Chin and Ruxandra Nedu.
Margaret Fitch after discussing the MASCC/ASCO recommendations for survivorship:
‘Each change starts with a small step. What can you contribute today’?
I will support a relative with cancer (micro), prepare the start of a new study in my hospital (meso), and take the acquired knowledge with me in the plans for MASCC (macro). Have a great day.”
Muna Al-Khaifi, Lead of Breast Cancer Survivorship Program and GP oncologist, Skin Cancer Clinic at Sunnybrook, shared this post, adding:
“Thank you Corina van den Hurk, FMASCC for coming! Your presence was very special to us. I also appreciate your amazing talk about Alopecia and all the updates on treatments including scalp cooling. I hope you have a safe trip to the Netherlands. Please come back again next year!”
