”CSO at ASCO: Innovation, Evidence, Compassion, and Hope: Delivering Outcomes That Matter.
Panelists Drs. Sam Stevens, Michelle Tregear, Rachel Riechelmann, Christopher Jackson, and Chris Booth led an Education Session at ASCO2026 about the importance of patient-centred outcomes in cancer care.
Over the past 50 years, cancer care has seen remarkable advances, but in some circumstances the way we measure progress is misaligned with what patients value most.
While there have been important advances in biomedical treatment, systems have not placed enough emphasis on the other core domains of holistic care: compassionate communication, patient empowerment, and psychosocial support.
The authors call for a common-sense approach: an emphasis on patient-centered outcomes such as survival, quality of life, and functional well-being across clinical trials, policy, and care delivery.
Meaningful progress in oncology will require aligning innovation, evidence, and health systems with compassionate, equitable care that truly improves patients’ lives.”
