Colleen Chapman: Remembering the Legacy of Eva Schumacher-Wulf

Colleen Chapman, Executive Director, Patient Advocacy Lead at Relay Therapeutics, shared on LinkedIn:

“What an incredible impact a single person can make. It is heartbreaking to hear that Eva Schumacher-Wulf has died. She was a force.

If you have a loved one living with metastatic breast cancer, their life has likely been impacted by Eva. By her 20 years of advocacy. By her pushing for more rigorous clinical trials. Or her demand for evaluating progression-free survival and quality of life in equal measure. Or her fight for more options for patients with brain mets. Or her calls for policy change for broader and faster access to better treatments for patients around the world.

Those of us lucky enough to work with her in the metastatic breast cancer community know how keen her mind was, how her face lit up when she read promising new data, how good she was at translating that data for others, and the reverence she earned for always calling a spade a spade and strategically moving everyone forward.

Her impact will live on in our community’s work but the loss of her is so deeply felt. We will miss her very much.”

SPCC (Sharing Progress in Cancer Care) also shared on LinkedIn:

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Eva Schumacher-Wulf, an extraordinary patient advocate whose courage, compassion and unwavering commitment inspired us all.

It was a privilege for SPCC to know Eva and to work alongside her. We are especially grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from her generosity, resilience and tireless dedication to improving the quality of life of people living with breast cancer.

Eva gave a powerful voice to the experiences and needs of patients, reminding us all why keeping people at the heart of care matters so deeply.

Our thoughts are with her family, friends and everyone whose lives she touched. Eva’s legacy will continue to inspire SPCC and all those working to improve the lives of people affected by cancer.”
