“Systems change is difficult to capture in a single image. But in Tbilisi, you could hear it in the voices of the people leading it.
This week, the City Cancer Challenge (C/Can) team had the honour of joining our strategic partners from Roche, including CEO Teresa Harris Graham, Michael Oberreiter and Maka Asatiani, for a high-level mission to Tbilisi.
Together, we stepped onto the ground to listen, learn, and experience firsthand what years of locally led collaboration can achieve through the eyes and voices of those driving change every day.
We heard directly from patients, clinicians, hospital leaders, researchers and policymakers about how Tbilisi is strengthening the cancer system as a whole: improving multidisciplinary care, making chemotherapy delivery safer, expanding financial protection and access to medicines, strengthening cancer governance, and translating global guidance into locally owned action.
What stayed with the group most was the leadership behind this transformation, especially the energy of a new generation of Georgian professionals ready not only to sustain progress at home, but to share their experience across the region.
C/Can and Roche have developed a collaboration framework grounded in trust, technical collaboration, and shared commitment, which continues to be a benchmark for our global impact. It was inspiring to see this synergy so clearly reflected throughout our conversations with key local stakeholders.
This is what real partnership looks like: local people leading change, institutions working together, patients at the centre, and committed partners staying the course.”
