“Too often, a good idea for improving cancer care never makes it into the clinic. A project gets designed, then stalls somewhere between intention and everyday practice. Implementation science is the discipline that closes that gap, turning plans into approaches that get built, tested, and evaluated under the real conditions of a health system.
That was the focus of a two-day workshop on implementation science in cancer care that took place in Rosario, where C/Can convened researchers, decision-makers, and clinical teams. Working alongside the Universidad Nacional de Rosario, IECS – Instituto de Efectividad Clínica y Sanitaria, Centro de Estudios de Estado y Sociedad (CEDES) and the Institute for Implementation Science at UTHealth Houston, the workshop moved from introducing the field to managers and policymakers to sitting down directly with C/Can Rosario’s own project teams.
The applied sessions took the projects already underway in the city and pressed them with harder questions. What exactly is the research question? How will we know it works, and what would it take to scale? Teams left with preliminary research questions, early indicators, and a clearer path for embedding implementation science into the cancer program Rosario is building.
