“Six months ago, on World Cancer Day, Quezon City signed an MoU with C/Can and committed to strengthening cancer care for the more than three million people who call it home, backed by the first integrated cancer control policy in the Philippines.
Joined by Regional Director for Asia Chika Kitajima and City Manager Herdee Luna, C/Can CEO Isabel Mestres recently spent a few days meeting the doctors, hospital leaders, city and national health officials, foundations and industry partners who make up the city’s cancer care ecosystem.
The visit set out to deepen the strategic alliance in Quezon City, review early progress and solidify local ownership of the initiative. It also strengthened multi-sectoral collaboration across local government, medical societies and civil society, and opened conversations with potential funders and partners to support sustainable, long-term implementation.
City Cancer Challenge would like to thank the Quezon City Government, Quezon City Health Department, Department of Health – Cancer Control Division, World Health Organization, PH Country Office and Regional Office, Quezon City Government, Philippine Cancer Society, East Avenue Medical Center and Philippine Cancer Center for making this visit meaningful!
We are looking forward to Quezon City’s stakeholders coming together for the Stakeholder Engagement Workshop, the first milestone of the City Engagement Process Framework (CEPF). There, they will identify the key institutions to form the City Executive Committee, C/Can’s city governance body.
The foundations are being laid, one step at a time.”
