“Since 2017, Asunción has been on a journey to strengthen its cancer care system. The ongoing Readiness Programme (2022–2025) has been a game-changer, combining access to six essential breast cancer medicines with cutting-edge health system improvements, digital innovations, laboratory upgrades, and enhanced patient care.
Thanks to the incredible support and dedication of local stakeholders, we’ve achieved inspiring results:
- Over 75 breast cancer patients received their medications for free.
- Four laboratories were upgraded to meet quality standards.
- Test results are now faster.
- Sample collection and testing processes were improved for better quality and accuracy.
- Pharmacy facilities in three hospitals were updated to ensure worker safety and better medicine preparation.
- Digital tools were introduced to share information and make patient care smoother.
- Patient experience was improved by enhancing infrastructure at the main healthcare facilities.
This project, which concluded this week, showcases the power of collaboration between government, healthcare providers, and private partners like Direct Relief and Amgen to transform cancer care. Together, we’re laying a strong foundation for a healthier future for all.
