Christos Tsagkaris, Social Media Editor at JBI Evidence Implementation, Member of the Board of the Cancer Mission of the European Commission, shared on LinkedIn:
“Five years of EU Mission Cancer — and life remains the answer
Five years of the EU Cancer Mission, an endeavour I have been honoured to be part of since 2022, brought us back to Brussels for ‘Stronger Through Connection’: an event looking at what has changed and, more importantly, what comes next.
I had the pleasure of moderating a discussion on quality of life and survivorship, bringing together perspectives from academia, community and civil society, grounded in lived and clinical experience. We explored how engagement with adolescents and young adults can advance more holistic cancer care, particularly around mental health, return to work, stigma and patient engagement.
One message stood out: promising pilots need pathways to become lasting practice.
Between sessions, it was great to reconnect with colleagues and hear about progress ranging from living labs and digital literacy to liquid biopsies and NK cells, across common and rare cancers.
Five years on, current Mission Cancer actions are expected to improve the lives of 2.3 million people by 2030, with upcoming projects expected to take this beyond the target of 3 million. The next years are therefore about sustaining the same biopsychosocial trajectory: bringing science, care and lived experience closer together.
Thank you to the organisers, colleagues and broader community who made not only the three days event, but most importantly the past 5 years, meaningful.”
