Christos Tsagkaris, Orthopedic Surgery Resident at Solothurner Hospitals AG – soH, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Honoured to be part of the launch of Σύμπραξη (Sympraxis), a national partnership bringing together oncologists, cardiologists and patient organisations to develop integrated cardio-oncology care pathways from disease prevention to survivorship
Sympraxis offers a broader model of prevention: one that builds on the experience of cardio-oncology not only to prevent and manage treatment-related cardiovascular complications, but also to strengthen the primary and primordial prevention of the shared determinants of cancer and cardiovascular disease.
In doing so, Sympraxis sets the case for upstream prevention and carries an important policy message. At a time when new initiatives across disease areas may understandably compete for policy attention and resources, Sympraxis demonstrates that shared determinants of health create opportunities for convergence rather than competition.
By bringing together oncologists, cardiologists, patient organisations and, progressively, paediatric specialists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, rehabilitation professionals and many others, it offers a framework in which different disciplines contribute to a common preventive agenda while preserving their distinct expertise.
If successful, this model could extend well beyond cardio-oncology. Clinically, it could inform integrated pathways with rehabilitation, musculoskeletal medicine and other specialties that contribute to long-term survivorship. At the policy level, it also resonates with emerging frameworks such as One Health, encouraging us to think not only about screening and early diagnosis, but also about cleaner environments, healthier food systems and communities that promote health before disease develops.
My sincere thanks to everyone whose vision and commitment made Sympraxis possible, and to my fellow panelists and the audience for a thoughtful and inspiring discussion.”
