Christos Tsagkaris, Orthopedic Surgery Resident at Solothurner Hospitals AG – soH, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Health is more than the absence of disease, and medicine is an art shaped by science. On 7 April, World Health Day, we had the opportunity to reflect-thanks to an initiative of the WHO Youth Council – on why we stand with science.
Speaking from Athens, I focused on uncertainty. We are never certain how long we remain healthy, and when illness comes, uncertainty often weighs as much as the disease itself.
What matters is not knowing where we stand: how long pain will last, what recovery will look like, or how life will be shaped in the meantime.
Science does not eliminate uncertainty, but it helps us approach it in a structured way. For us, health professionals and researchers, this means not only studying disease and outcomes, but also paying attention to patient experiences, narratives, and participation.
Health as a complete state of wellbeing may remain an aspiration, but reducing uncertainty through science is a goal worth pursuing.
Why do you stand with science?”
