Christos Tsagkaris, Orthopedic Surgery Resident at Solothurner Hospitals AG – soH, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Tomorrow marks the launch of a new monthly lecture series organized by and for (but not limited to) the alumni of the School of Medicine, University of Crete.
For many of us, lectures were not merely instructional sessions. They were intellectual and human meeting spaces – places where we came to know not only medicine, but also one another: our interests, aspirations, professional paths, and emerging visions. That formative exchange should not end at graduation.
With this spirit in mind, on 18 February we inaugurate the UoC Medical School Alumni Research Seminars, a virtual platform showcasing the scientific work and professional journeys of our alumni across the world. The series aims to strengthen ties between the School and its graduates, foster interdisciplinary dialogue, and create opportunities for mentorship and collaboration across generations and geographies.
The first seminar will be delivered by Prof. Dimitra Skondra (NYU Grossman School of Medicine) and will explore the microbiome–retina axis in macular degeneration.
This initiative materializes a discussion initiated toward the end of 2025 with Dean Prof. Helen Papadaki and colleagues from Greece, the USA, and Europe, including Profs. Nikolaos Galanakis, MD, MSc, PhD, EBIR giannis sperelakis and George Stamatiades, MD, PhD, FACP
