Christos Tsagkaris, Orthopedic Surgery Resident at Solothurner Hospitals AG – soH, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“The European Cancer Summit coincided with World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week.
Here is why this is not a mere coincidence, but a reminder of how deeply interconnected cancer and antibiotics have become:
WAAW2025 concludes, we are reminded that AMR threats:
- Cancer care
- Safe surgery, orthopaedics, and trauma treatment
- Global health equity
AMR claims more than 1 million lives annually, compromising good outcomes achieved by other disciplines of medicine and surgery. Compounded by interconnected pressures in human health, veterinary care, food systems and the environment, AMR is a whole-system challenge.
Our collective responsibility towards the future of cancer care entails strengthening stewardship, building preparedness and thus protecting the antibiotics that protect our patients – a task that we can only achieve together with people and entities bringing onehealth, climate change, agrifood systems, environmental surveillance insights and expertise: Kiriaki A. Arnés Sanz Jose M Martin-Moreno Denis Sarigiannis Vasilis Vasiliou Cristina Arnés Sanz Elena Petelos Elisavet Pylarinou Hanna Kaade Madhusudan Kaphle to name a few.
Thanks to OncoDaily for hosting these thoughts alongside several other insights and stories.”
