“On November 1st, I’m running the New York City Marathon. This is my first time running a marathon, 26.2 miles for a cause I know all too well.
I’m running in honor of my parents, Ernesto and Angelina Garcia. These last couple of years have tested my family in ways I’m still learning to carry – first losing my mom, and then losing my dad this past February after his long, courageous battle with colon cancer. Every mile I run on November 1st will be for them.
This cause lives at the center of both my life and my work. As an oncologist and the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program Director at Weill Cornell Medicine, I spend my days caring for patients fighting cancer while training the physicians who will lead the next generation of care. I’ve seen up close what more research, more support, and more time can mean for a family, because I’ve needed it myself.
My goal is to raise $10,000+ for Team NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital for our Weill Cornell Medicine Hematology and Oncology Fellowship Fund.
Every dollar goes directly to our young physicians, supporting their research, career growth and wellness.
