Christian Ntizimira: From a Young Cancer Leader in 2014 to the UICC Board in 2026

Christian Ntizimira, Executive Director of ACREOL, Board of Directors of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), shared on LinkedIn:

“From a Young Cancer Leader in 2014 to the UICC Board in 2026. What a journey!

When I received the wonderful news of my election to the UICC Board of Directors, I immediately thought of the World Cancer Congress 2026 in Hong Kong, and even further back to 2014, when my journey with Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) began as a Young Cancer Leader.

Twelve years later, the mission remains the same, but the opportunities to make a difference keep growing!

The Congress was an incredible celebration of progress in cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, survivorship, and supportive and palliative care.

I was delighted to share Rwanda’s progress in advocating for and integrating palliative care into oncology services, in collaboration with the Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC).

One of my highlights? Sharing the stage with the wonderful Dr. Lidia Schapira, Dr. Miriam Mutebi, and cancer survivor advocate Prisca Githuka for a meaningful conversation on cancer survivorship in low- and middle-income countries.

And Hong Kong? What a city!

From its breathtaking sights and fascinating history to its delicious food and warm people, the experience went far beyond the Congress halls.

A heartfelt thank you to the Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society (HKACS) for the wonderful hospitality and to UICC for bringing the global cancer community together.

From 2014 to 2026, one thing is certain: the journey continues, and so does the commitment to making cancer care more equitable, compassionate, and accessible to all.”
