“Motivational post:
Not only adapt and overcome challenges, endorse and take advantage of them!
Life is full of surprises. No matter how well you may prepare, things can go wrong. Murphy be confirmed: everything that can go wrong, will.
Reflecting the many European Society of Pathology courses of the last weeks, the EScoP course in Salzburg stands out as a unique challenge.
A course on Soft Tissue pathology, with 3 Tutors, all established experts and already with proven commitment to education and ESP: Judith Bovee, raf sciot, David Creytens!
The team had worked intensively to prepare the course material and to offer an exceptional course to the 80 participants!
Mere hours before the start of the course, we received news that 2 of the 3 tutors had to cancel their trip due to severe health issues (thankfully resolved by the time of this post).
Having received the news while on the trip to Salzburg, there was no time to cancel the course, nor find replacements.
This was a spark for the whole team to act and not freeze:
- he ESP HQ team within a couple of hours had secured the services of an IT company to offer remote connection to the tutors. The experience from the ESP Event Team (Juliane Heinicke, Eva-Maria Heinrich, Sarah Berger), really showed its value!
- the tutors, despite been unwell, worked with us to either offer lectures live but remotely, or pre-record lectures.
- the key point of success was the resolve of David Creytens: he was the onsite Tutor, and took up to present lectures from the others, motivate the participants, and cover any questions!
Yet he managed to deliver without a pause and keeping the excitement up for all days of the course. Thank you so much David!
A humble contribution from my side, besides the coordination part, to use my recent experience from the EMMP to answer questions for MolPath techniques and their standardization in clinical practice!
Albeit the audience included several experienced colleagues, whose expectations were quite high, all were satisfied with the outcome and some commented that this was their best EScoP experience thus far!
Prime example of how an onsite ESP course is providing inspiration to its participants!
While the photo is from another event, the stamp on the T-shirt fits perfectly here, a quote from Sly’s Rocky movies:
‘It ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done'”
