Children’s Cancer Institute shared a post on LinkedIn:
“As 2025 comes to a close, we want to thank you sincerely for your generous support this year. Everything we have achieved has been made possible by people like you.
This is truly an exciting moment in time for Children’s Cancer Institute. As you read this, our teams are moving into our new home, the Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre (MCCCC), where we will be working side-by-side with staff from the Kids Cancer Centre at Sydney Children’s Hospital – clinical care and research working in a fully integrated way to improve outcomes for children with cancer.
Over many years, your support has helped this partnership thrive, including through the Zero Childhood Cancer (ZERO) Program. Thanks to you, ZERO has effectively established precision medicine as standard of care for Australian children with cancer, with nearly 3,000 children and young people enrolled on ZERO to date.
But the momentum does not stop here. As we make new discoveries and develop new tools in the lab, we will be incorporating them into the ZERO program, and in doing so, delivering new capabilities into the health system for the benefit of all children with cancer.
Some of the research highlights your support has made possible include:
- Developing new 3D bioprinted tumour models to rapidly identify the most effective treatments for each child with a solid tumour.
- Discovering a promising new way to treat neuroblastoma by depriving cancer cells of an essential nutrient called arginine.
- World-first research revealing cancer predisposition genes in 7.5% of children with the aggressive brain cancer diffuse midline glioma, offering vital clues for treatment.
- Identifying a new gene alteration that is sensitive to an existing class of drugs – opening the door to new treatment options for some of the most aggressive childhood cancers.
This progress is moving us towards a future where one day, every child will have the opportunity to grow up and grow old. Because like you, we believe that a life should be long.
But hundreds of Australian families will be facing a Christmas impacted by childhood cancer. Some will be receiving a terrible diagnosis, others will be in the midst of gruelling treatment, and tragically, some families will be facing Christmas without their child. Please dig deep and donate what you can, so our research team can find a cure for every child.
