“Where a child lives should never determine their chance of surviving cancer.
But geography still matters.
Childhood cancer treatment can last for months. Children may need to remain close to specialized care, while their caregivers put work, income and everyday life on hold to be there with them.
And sometimes, something as fundamental as having a place to stay can determine whether treatment can continue.
Let us tell you what that can look like.
When we opened a new Home Away From Home in Bolivia, we asked one father where he had slept before the Home was there.
‘On the street,’
he told us.
‘But I made sure I slept close to the ATM because it was warmer there.’
His child was receiving cancer treatment. He simply needed to be close.
This is why Home Away From Home by CCI exists.
Since 2024, the program has supported CCI member organizations in nine countries to create and strengthen Homes where children and their caregivers can stay while receiving treatment far from home.
Today, together with Sanofi Foundation, and our other donors, we are incredibly excited to open our third Call for Proposals – giving more CCI members the opportunity to create and strengthen Homes in their communities.
Because a Home is more than a place to stay.
It is safety. It is comfort. It is a moment of peace in the middle of treatment. And essentially, it can give a child a better chance of survival.
Applications are now open to eligible CCI members until 15 December 2026.
Together, we can save more children’s lives.”
