Korede Akindele, Chair of Young SIOP Network, Chief Operating Officer at The Dorcas Cancer Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“September may end, but for children and families facing cancer, the reality continues every single day.
This is what makes everyday Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Each day presents another opportunity to reach one more child earlier, strengthen one more health system, and train one more healthcare worker to “look again.”
Over the past year, childhood cancer has gained renewed global attention following its formal recognition as a global health priority by the World Health Organization. Yet awareness alone is not enough.
To continue to advance this agenda, we must move beyond campaigns and double our commitment to sustainable, system-level interventions that ensure equity in diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.
As the gold ribbons come down, we must continue to “look again” to see the unseen children in remote communities, under-resourced hospitals, and regions where a cancer diagnosis still feels like a death sentence.
Childhood cancer advocacy is not seasonal; it is a continuous mission rooted in compassion, justice, and health system strengthening.
Even as September ends, the call remains to Look again, Act again and Invest again. When you invest in pediatric oncology, you are investing in the future of nations.”
