“Congratulations to Roxana Dronca, M.D. and our team at Mayo Clinic and Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center for the study published today in NEJM Catalyst, reporting the results of our innovative cancer care delivery program: Cancer CARE (Connected Access and Remote Expertise) Beyond Walls (CCBW).
Herein, we demonstrate that cancer chemotherapy can be safely delivered in the home setting, allowing us to fulfill our commitment to deliver cancer care and clinical trials “beyond our walls.”
With Mayo Clinic Platform, we demonstrate the safe delivery of chemotherapy and immunotherapy to patients in their homes, using virtual and digital tools, real-time data transfer to theelectronic medical record, and connection and support of the patient and their home-based care team to Mayo Clinic experts 24 hours a day.
To date, CCBW has delivered over 1,200 in-home chemotherapy treatments to 271 patients. We have also used the CCBW platform to enhance access and participation in clinical trials, accruing 189 patients to 7 clinical trials in the home. Such programs are transforming healthcare and cancer care by reducing patient burden and financial toxicity, reducing the need to travel for care, and enhancing access to quality cancer care and clinical trials.
We are grateful to Gianrico Farrugia, M.D. and Mayo Clinic for the vision and creation of the platforms that have driven this transformation.”
