Association of European Cancer Leagues shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Eliminating cervical cancer is no longer a distant dream.
In 2022 alone, nearly 14,000 women in Europe lost their lives to cervical cancer. Thanks to ongoing efforts in HPV vaccination and screening, we are getting closer to a future in which women do not have to die of this disease.
But we aren’t there yet. Participation in national screening programmes varies dramatically across Europe: while countries like Sweden, Czechia, Slovenia, Ireland, and Finland reach over 70%, rates in Romania and Poland remain below 11%. This leaves thousands of girls and women, many from vulnerable groups, at risk.
17 November marks World Cervical Cancer Elimination Day – the first official World Health Day dedicated to eliminating a cancer. Together with cancer societies across Europe, we call on policymakers to expand access to HPV vaccination and HPV-based screening for all.
