Celia Diez de los Rios, Lecturer at the University of Navarra, Spain, Board Member at From Testing to Targeted Treatments (FT3), Oncology Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow, shared a post by La Razón on LinkedIn:
“Yesterday was one of those moments I will never forget. After years advocating for the role of cancer nurses across Europe, I had the honor of doing it in my own country, at the first-ever event planned by the press dedicated to recognizing cancer nurses in Spain. And even prouder to be able to speak about the role of cancer nurses in genetics. To give a voice to hereditary cancer syndromes, to precision medicine, to family and personal risk. Thank you Laura Bascuñana Sánchez for chairing our panel, and to my brilliant colleagues Julio de la Torre, Jorgina Serra López, Guadalupe Fontan Vinagre for such an inspiring discussion. What a privilege to share that table with you.
A heartfelt thank you to La Razón and Sergio Alonso Puente for giving cancer nursing national visibility in the press for the very first time. And thank you Marta Robles for your support and your open heart. Gracias to the rest of the speakers for elevating the conversation: Jose Luis Cobos, Lill Sverresdatter Larsen, Ángeles Peñuelas, Laura África Villaseñor Roa, Mar Rocha, Florentino Pérez Diego Ayuso, Paloma Repila, Jesus Sanz Villorejo, Almudena Santano Magariño, Carmen Casado, Victoria Crespo, Begoña Barragán, Isabel Saiz.
And to my colleagues and friends, Marta Domingo, Héctor Nafría Soria, Lola Pérez Cárdenas, Gema Gonzalez Monterrubio, Julia Ruiz, Nerea Elizondo Rodríguez – thank you for always being there with the perfect words. Proud, moved, and hopeful. Cancer nursing deserves recognition, and yesterday we took a huge step.”
Quoting La Razón’s post:
“The importance of Nursing in clinical trials is critical for the development of research in Spain, which is a world leader, only surpassed by the United States. Laura Bascuñana, moderator of the conference, said that it is time to recognize the work of these professionals. Guadalupe Fontán emphasized the need for institutional support, because, “nurses have to be there“. To this end, Julio C. de la Torre urged a collective approach, stressing that “research is not exclusive to one profession“. What steps are essential to strengthen this recognition?”
