Catherine Alix-Panabières: Delighted To Be In Heidelberg For The DKFZ Scientific Advisory Board Meeting

Catherine Alix-Panabières, Director of the Laboratory of Rare Human Circulating Cells and Professor of Universities – Hospital Practitioner at Montpellier University Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Delighted to be in Heidelberg for the Scientific Advisory Board of the DKFZ German Cancer Research Center.  Michael Baumann (DKFZ Director), Andreas Brunner

This visit felt particularly meaningful as it coincides with a special milestone: the celebration of 65 years of the twinning between Montpellier and Heidelberg—two cities deeply connected through science, culture, and friendship.

Even if I am born in Strasbourg, Montpellier is my home, where I serve as Professor of Oncology at the CHU de Montpellier and the Faculté de Médecine Montpellier-Nîmes.

I was especially pleased to meet Marc Massoth, from the Mayor’s office of Heidelberg, Eckart Würzner. Together, we took the time to walk through the city in the evening and appreciate its remarkable beauty and heritage. A memorable moment was visiting the City Hall and discovering the beautiful medal offered by the Mayor of Montpellier—a symbol of the enduring bond between our two cities.

The following day, I had the pleasure of visiting the Montpellier Haus in Heidelberg, where I was warmly welcomed by an exceptional team: Yohan Planeix, along with the student team Noémie Hiard, Thaïs Oliveira–Levasseur, and Mathilde Jean-Pierre.
A special thank you as well to Guillaume Reboul, who offered a wonderful tasting of wines from Montpellier to the Heidelberg community—an elegant and convivial way to share our region’s culture.

It is truly inspiring to see how present and active Montpellier is in Heidelberg, and how these connections extend even into leading institutions such as the DKFZ, where I am honored to contribute to Cancer Research.

These moments are a powerful reminder that science thrives not only through excellence and innovation, but also through human connections, shared cultures, and enduring partnerships across borders.”
