Catherine Alix-Panabières, Professor of Oncology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Montpellier, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“An unforgettable evening, filled with sincerity and love
I had the privilege of spending a deeply moving evening with Annick and Samir, the parents of Bertrand-Kamal (“Beka”), in a moment of simplicity, warmth, and profound humanity.
Bertrand-Kamal tragically passed away in September 2020 from pancreatic cancer at the age of 30, shortly after taking part in “Koh-Lanta: Les 4 Terres”.
To honour his memory, Annick and Samir created with the help of Denis Brogniart & Alexia Laroche-Joubert the Fonds Pour Bertrand Kamal in collaboration with Fondation ARC pour la recherche sur le cancer, with the mission to support high-quality research dedicated exclusively to improving the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of Pancreatic Cancer.
At LCCRH, CHU de Montpellier, we are truly honoured to be supported by these funds as we work on Early Detection of Pancreatic Cancer using Liquid Biopsy and AI. Our goal in our PANLIPSY Project is to define a blood-based signature to identify this highly aggressive cancer as early as possible.
I am fortunate to coordinate this national research project, and I would like to sincerely thank Fondation ARC pour la recherche sur le cancer for their trust.

In parallel, we are also strongly committed to the European PANCAID project, combining Liquid Biopsy approaches and Early Detection strategies in pancreatic cancer, plus the European GUIDE.MRD project, using Liquid Biopsy ctDNA to detection MRD in Pancreatic Cancer.
We remain driven by science, collaboration, and above all, hope.”
