Catharine Young on Dark Matter, Dark Energy, and the Mysteries of the Universe

Catharine Young, Senior Fellow at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, shared on LinkedIn:

“So excited to share that the second episode of alpha has dropped!

This episode features Renee Hlozek, an astrophysicist, cosmologist and associate professor at the University of Toronto.

Renée studies questions almost too large to hold in our minds (at least my mind, anyway ).

What is the universe made of ? How did it begin ? How will it end ?

She also gives the best explanation I have heard of the difference between dark matter and dark energy.

We share a few things in common, including being born and raised in South Africa.

But that is where our similarities end. She is way smarter, way cooler and can casually explain how the universe will end without sending everyone into an existential crisis.

Renée is also the perfect reminder of why I started this podcast – to highlight the amazing women who are asking the extraordinary questions of our time, shaping our future and inspiring us all along the way.

Thank you, Renee, for reminding us that the night sky belongs to everyone. And of course to my Producer Melanie.”
