Caroline Chukwu, Founder and Executive Director of Acetrea Cancer Advocacy Network, Oncology Nurse at Rivers State University Teaching Hospital – RSUTH, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“More Than Care. We Give Hope.
Oncology nursing is often described in clinical terms as protocols, treatments, outcomes.
But beyond the science lies something deeper: Presence in life’s most uncertain moments.
At Acetrea Cancer Advocacy Network (ACAN), we recognize that oncology nurses do far more than deliver care. They stand at the intersection of science and humanity offering strength when it is scarce, clarity when it is needed most, and hope when it feels distant.
This Oncology Nurses Month, we will be spotlighting the silent force behind cancer care systems globally (oncology nurses). Professionals who consistently show up, not just with skill, but with compassion, resilience, and unwavering commitment.
As an Oncology nurse, I have seen firsthand that oncology care is not just about extending life, but about preserving dignity, building trust, and walking with patients through every phase of their journey.
Now more than ever, the global health community must:
- Invest in oncology nursing education and specialization
- Strengthen workforce capacity in low- and middle-income countries
- Prioritize psychosocial support systems for both patients and caregivers
- Recognize oncology nurses as key drivers of patient outcomes and health system resilience
This is a call to action for global health leaders, institutions, and partners to elevate oncology nursing as a critical pillar in cancer control strategies.
Because in the end, we don’t just treat cancer. We care for people. And we give hope.”
