Carmen Monge-Montero, Researcher and Global Cancer Advocate, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“What a weekend on WECAN.
I had the most amazing time last week during my second time at the WECAN Academy, learning from the best in the field. The first time I attended was an eye-opener, but this time was even more insightful, with many new ideas and connections.
What can I say? The people, the beach, the weather, and the food were definitely highlights, but my favourite learnings from the academy were:
- Building Evidence-Based Advocacy and Why and Where Does Patient Involvement in Clinical Trials Belong? by Jan Geissler
- The best ways we can use AI as advocates and how it will change in the future
- Tools for advocacy, power, and alignment with your cause by Cristina Guerrero Paez
- The inspiring achievements of the WECAN foundation projects on research lead by advocates
- ‘Credibility takes a lot of time to build and little time to lose.’ by Marcia and managing volunteers and staff by Tanja Spanic
- Good Governance by Ananda Plate
And so many more learnings from the talks and from spending time together (including some new yoga poses). I learned our value as patient advocates, how to make better science and the right way to create change.
I want to thank the entire WECAN team for organizing such an amazing academy this year, and all the people who took the time to let me get to know them a little better.
Looking forward to keeping these connections alive and working together!
Thank you Ana Hernández Blázquez, Anastasia Mityagina, Anita Kienesberger, Gilliosa SPURRIER-BERNARD, Alex Filicevas, Mila Ogalla Toledo, Magdalena Jaworska, and many others for the welcoming.”
