Carmen Monge-Montero, Researcher and Global Cancer Advocate, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“When Atefeh Sadeghi was diagnosed with stage IV lymphoma in Belgium, one sentence from her doctor stayed with her:
‘Once you’re my patient, you’re my family’
In this new interview, Atefeh shares her experience as a cancer survivor from Iran living in Belgium, and why empathy, community, and human connection are essential parts of cancer care. I met her at an Inspire2Live conference, and since that moment, I knew we could do great things together as we have similar motivations and goals; this is one of the first collaborations we will do together.
This interview reminded me that survivorship is not only about treatment.
It is also about belonging, support, identity, work, and learning how to care for one another again.
We also talked about:
- Living with a late-stage lymphoma diagnosis
- Cancer stigma in different cultures
- Why survivorship support is still missing for many patients
- Building Women Cancer Europe and its ultimate goal
Thank you Atefeh, for sharing your story and your advocacy.
Interview No.96 on MANO Beyond Cancer.”
