Why Thousands of Patients Call Nagi El Saghir “The Doctor of Hope” – CancerWorld

CancerWorld shared on LinkedIn:

“Why do thousands of patients call him ‘The Doctor of Hope’?

Not because he discovered a new drug.
Not because he invented a new treatment.

But because he helped transform how an entire society understands cancer.

For decades, across Lebanon and the Middle East, fear often surrounded the word cancer. Silence delayed diagnosis, discouraged conversations, and too often stood in the way of care.

Professor Nagi El Saghir dedicated his career to changing that.

Through medicine, education, public advocacy, and global leadership, he helped replace fear with knowledge, stigma with awareness, and silence with hope.

In this interview, Professor Nagi El Saghir reflects on more than five decades of caring for patients, building institutions, mentoring future leaders, shaping global oncology, and advocating for equitable access to cancer care.

His greatest legacy may not be found in guidelines or scientific publications.

It may be that he helped a society stop whispering the word cancer and start facing it with knowledge, dignity, and hope.
