Europe is Proving that Policy, Prevention, and Innovation Together Can Save Lives – Cancer World

Cancer World shared a post on X:

“Surviving cancer shouldn’t depend on geography or income. Solidarity, hope, and determination guide our path forward.”

Olivér Várhelyi, the EU Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare.

Cancer remains the second leading cause of mortality in the EU, with 2.7M new cancer cases every year. But there’s hope: policy, innovation, and prevention are coming together to make a real difference.

  • Prevention matters: The European Code Against Cancer, now available in all EU languages, gives citizens practical, evidence-based steps to reduce their risk.
  • Access for all: The EU Network of Comprehensive Cancer Centres links 100 centres, aiming to ensure high-quality care isn’t a matter of geography.
  • Early detection and innovation: Expanded screening guidelines now cover six major cancers, while EU reforms like the Biotech Act and updated medical device rules unlock breakthroughs in treatment and care.

Europe is proving that policy, prevention, and innovation together can save lives and shape a healthier future for all.”
