Cancer Prevention Belongs at the Center of EU Wine Policy – Association of European Cancer Leagues

Association of European Cancer Leagues shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Cancer prevention must be at the heart of EU wine policy.

Alcohol is responsible for thousands of cancer-related deaths in Europe each year. It has been classified as a known human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and is linked to at least seven types of cancer, including breast, colorectal, and liver cancers.

Regulating the ways in which alcoholic beverages like wine are labelled and marketed is a major step towards better cancer prevention across Europe. Yet the draft EU Wine Package risks making health information even harder to access, by allowing wine to be marked as ‘low-alcohol’ and pushing for digital-only labelling.

People have a right to know about the link between alcohol and cancer. That is why, together with the European Health Alliance on Alcohol, we are calling for stronger EU rules that promote cancer prevention.”
