Cancer Institute NSW Launches Australia’s First Alcohol and Cancer Risk Tool

Cancer Institute NSW shared a post on LinkedIn:

“In an Australian first, the Cancer Institute NSW has launched a digital tool to help people understand how their alcohol use is affecting their cancer risk.

About 5,800 cancer cases in Australia could be prevented each year if people limited their drinking. When it comes to cancer risk, no amount of alcohol is safe.

Despite this, we know drinking is also a behaviour that is ingrained in our community. The tool was developed by the Institute, using data analysed by The Daffodil Centre (a research partnership between University of Sydney and Cancer Council NSW) as an educational device for all adults.

People enter their age, gender and how much alcohol they drink over a week to see an estimate of their lifetime risk of some alcohol-related cancers.
