“Appreciation – Strengthening Breast Cancer Care Together.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all our distinguished speakers, stakeholders, partners, and participants who contributed to the success of the Northeast Breast Cancer Dialogue, TeleOncology Hub Continuing Medical Education (CME) Webinar and Stakeholders’ Engagement.
Co-hosted by Cancer Consciousness Initiative (CCI) and Roche, in collaboration with NICRAT, NEDC, and NHIA, the webinar brought together breast surgeons, pathologists, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, patient navigators, policymakers, and other healthcare professionals from across Northeast Nigeria to discuss practical strategies for improving breast cancer care.
The multidisciplinary discussions focused on strengthening early detection, timely diagnosis, quality treatment, patient navigation, financing, and equitable access to care.
A major milestone was the collaborative planning for Pinktober 2026, envisioned as the largest coordinated breast cancer awareness campaign across the six states of Northeast Nigeria. Planned activities include town hall meetings, cancer awareness walks, community breast cancer screening, biopsies with histopathological assessment, NEDC/NHIA enrollment, and expanded access to Immunohistochemistry through the NHIA–Roche partnership.
Participants also gained valuable insights into the Roche-NHIA Cost-Sharing Initiative, designed to reduce the financial burden of HER2-targeted therapy and improve access to life-saving treatment for eligible patients.
Another key highlight was the presentation of findings from the ARETTA Trial – a landmark clinical trial conducted by Nigerian researchers in Nigeria.
The study demonstrated a 53% pathological complete response (pCR) with subcutaneous (SC) Trastuzumab (Herceptin), providing strong evidence for its effectiveness, feasibility, and applicability in low- and middle-income countries. The findings support the adoption of SC Trastuzumab in chemotherapy settings across Northeast Nigeria, offering patients shorter treatment times by eliminating prolonged infusion while maintaining excellent clinical outcomes.
Together, we are building stronger partnerships, advancing evidence-based cancer care, and bringing quality breast cancer services closer to the communities that need them most.
