“Voice of the families post #52 Anxious and his grandfather.
Anxious, a 10-year-old boy from Kasese about 150 km from Mbarara City, presented with a 2-month history of neck swellings. His caregivers initially sought help from a nearby health facility, which eventually referred him to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital (MRRH) in western Uganda. At MRRH, he was diagnosed with Burkitt’s lymphoma and subsequently started on treatment.
Caring for Anxious has been challenging because he is under the sole care of his grandfather.
“He has no parents, and it’s only me who can look after him. But I also have a large family of about 20 people, including his younger siblings, some of whom are still in school. I have to provide for all of them, yet I have no stable source of income”.
He has now successfully finished treatment for Burkitt’s lymphoma. His grandfather is relieved and grateful to see his grandson well again. He now spends most of the day playing outside with his friends.
Appropriate consent given.”
