C. Ola Landgren: 2nd Annual Florida Myeloma Translational Workshop Drives Progress Toward Curative Therapies

C. Ola Landgren, Leader of Translational and Clinical Oncology Program/Experimental Therapeutics at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“What a Success!!

On January 8-9, 2026, the Myeloma Programs at Moffitt Cancer Center and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at University of Miami co-chaired the 2nd Annual Florida Myeloma Translational Workshop. This year, the meeting took place at the legendary The Don CeSar hotel in St. Pete, Florida.

Thank you Dr. Ken Shain and Moffitt team for serving as local hosts this year; thank you Dr. Lawrence Boise from Emory University School of Medicine for serving as keynote speaker; and thank you all internal speakers from Moffitt Cancer Center and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at University of Miami for amazing talks.

Approximately 36,000 individuals are diagnosed with multiple myeloma in the U.S. every year. Currently, over 200,000 people are living with multiple myeloma in the country. Among all the 50 U.S. states, Florida has highest number of patients (>10% of all patients in the country). Driven by research, the therapies are getting better and better, but we still lack established curative treatments for the disease.

Together, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at University of Miami and Moffitt Cancer Center have established a world-class Florida Myeloma Translational Team, designed to move the needle. We are driving discovery science in our wet and dry labs, we are developing novel diagnostic and prognostic tools, and we are innovating the use of AI to accelerate our science. Our overall goal is to develop curative treatment strategies for patients with multiple myeloma within 5 years. We are committed and dedicated to work together to deliver.”
