C/Can Advances Breast Imaging Training for Global Cities
City Cancer Challenge (C/Can) shared on LinkedIn:
“Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer worldwide and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women. Early detection and accurate diagnosis save lives – yet access to high-quality imaging remains a challenge in many urban settings.
At C/Can, we harness the power of cities to drive transformational change in healthcare systems, enhancing access to cancer care at both local and national levels.
To address this, C/Can joined forces with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Pan American Health Organization and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in August 2025 to support the IAEA Regional Training Course on Breast Imaging at MD Anderson The Woodlands in Houston, TX.
We supported six dedicated professionals from Arequipa, Cali, Concepción, and Rosario to learn from leading experts. Participants strengthened their skills in:
- Mammography and breast ultrasound fundamentals
- Advanced techniques, including Image-guided procedures with stereotactic and ultrasound guidance
- Updates on early detection strategies, including Clinical Breast Examination, mobile mammography, and BI-RADS standardised reporting
- Hands-on practice of image positioning and quality control techniques
- Multi-modality case review with multidisciplinary discussion
Their participation in the course was made possible through the in-kind support of Siemens Healthineers, one of C/Can’s valued strategic partners.
By equipping city teams with advanced skills, we are helping ensure that everyone can access timely, accurate, and life-saving breast cancer diagnostics in their own communities.”
