Bogda Koczwara, Director of Australian Research Centre for Cancer Survivorship at UNSW, Professor at Department of Medical Oncology at Flinders University, shared on LinkedIn:
“What were the highlights of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) World cancer Congress?
Let me name a few:
- A truly global view of cancer control where problems are not discussed from the perspective of one country, one population group or one cancer type
- Focus on challenging problems that require complex solutions – for example how do you balance the quest for innovation with the costs that are required to get it off the ground, how do we reduce low value care or how do we curtail the damage caused by misinformation and commercial determinants of health
- Lots of discussions about policy drilling down into what that really means – how do you influence policy beyond just talking about it
- Respect for the role of civil societies and people affected by cancer as agents of change and the unique value they add
- And most importantly, connection with some amazing people who are really making a change including other candidates for the Board of Directors of UICC – so many amazing candidates – I am truly humbled to be selected given such stellar line up.
I have learned a lot and hope to put it into practice at home. Thank you Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).”
