Bogda Koczwara, Director of Australian Research Centre for Cancer Survivorship, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Last weekend, the Australian Research Centre for Cancer Survivorship team had the privilege of attending the 31st anniversary of CanRevive Inc. – an organization dedicated to supporting Chinese-speaking cancer survivors in New South Wales.
What a joyful occasion it was-vibrant, warm, and full of life. There was singing, conversation, and of course, extraordinary food.
Amidst the celebrations, there were important lessons:
- The power of community – CanRevive delivers care that is culturally grounded and community-led. This is care that not only enhances wellbeing but also helps overcome isolation and stigma.
- The power of advocacy – Founded and led by survivors and caregivers, CanRevive is a powerful reminder of what vision, determination, and lived experience can achieve.
- The power of connection – The event brought together people from diverse backgrounds, professions, and political perspectives—many beyond the Chinese community—united by a shared purpose.
- The strength of multicultural Australia – clearly on display throughout the evening.
As an immigrant whose own family story spans many countries, and as a survivorship researcher committed to amplifying the voices of people affected by cancer, I could not help it but feel hopeful.”
