“Before you build a cancer hospital, you have to understand the ground it stands on.
This week we received the geotechnical report for the Binaytara cancer hospital site in Janakpur. It covers soil borings, bearing capacity, groundwater, and seismic conditions, which together will shape the foundation and structural design of the building.
It’s not the most photogenic milestone. But in a region where earthquakes and floods are a real risk, this is the work that makes a hospital safe to walk into for decades.
The 250 – bed campus is among the largest global oncology infrastructure projects any US organization has undertaken in a low – or middle – income country. When it opens, it will serve roughly 25 million people in Madhesh Province of Nepal and Bihar state of India, many of whom now travel to Kathmandu or India for cancer care.
Grateful to the engineering team and our partners on the ground in Nepal for getting this done.”
