Leadership Transition at Merck: Belén Garijo is Leaving After 5 Years of Service

Belén Garijo, Chair of the Executive Board and CEO of Merck, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Leading the Merck Group is the greatest privilege of my career. With the announcement today, I feel a mix of pride, gratitude, and optimism. Pride in what we’ve built together, gratitude for the journey we’ve shared, and optimism for the future that lies ahead.

We’ve come through some truly challenging times: a global pandemic, geopolitical tensions, and economic slowdown. I’m incredibly proud that we didn’t just navigate these difficulties – we emerged stronger, more united, and more resilient than ever.

All of this has only been possible because of our incredible people. Their dedication and unwavering support have made my five-year CEO journey truly exceptional. I am truly grateful for that. I also want to express my sincere gratitude to the Merck Family for their trust in me. It is this level of trust that has empowered my vision and strategy.

I have full confidence that Merck will continue its successful journey. We’ve laid a solid foundation to sustain growth, and we have exceptional talent supporting this path. Most importantly, we’ve identified a strong successor from within.

Congratulations to Kai Beckmann. Having worked with you for so many years, I have no doubt that you will lead Merck into a new, exciting chapter of continued success. For the upcoming months, I am looking forward to working with you hand in hand to ensure a smooth and thoughtful transition. I am getting ready to pass on the baton to you, Kai, in April 2026.”
