“Today marks a new stage in the recognition and enhancement of the essential role of civil society in the fight against cancer in Morocco.
We were present at the workshop to present and validate the first national digital mapping of associations supporting people with cancer, organized by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, through the Directorate of Epidemiology and Disease Control (DELM), with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO).
This initiative is part of the project ‘Meaningful Engagement of People Living with Cancer in Morocco‘, which aims to strengthen the participation of patients and their associations in the improvement of health policies and services. The NABD-BC2 Association association through its president, Mrs. Ikram Eseghir, a consultant for the project, has done a remarkable job in carrying out this first mapping.
This national platform will make it possible to:
- To identify associations supporting cancer patients throughout the Kingdom;
- facilitate the search for available services by region and by type of cancer;
- strengthen coordination between associations, health professionals and institutions;
- Promote the actions of civil society and improve patients’ access to local care and support services.
In addition to the presentation of the tool, this workshop allowed representatives of associations to actively contribute to its validation by making recommendations on the quality of the data, accessibility, ergonomics and continuous improvement of this platform before its official deployment.
For the AMAL Association, this participation reaffirms our conviction that patient associations are essential partners of the health system. Our expertise from experience, our proximity to patients and our actions in the field are essential added value to build a more humane, more coordinated and more equitable care pathway.
We thank Dr. Loubna Abousselham of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and Dr. Awatef Belakhel of the World Health Organization for this initiative which reflects a concrete recognition of the contribution of civil society and the significant commitment of people living with cancer in Morocco.
