Azza Sarfraz, Postdoctoral Research Fellow in GI Medical Oncology at Miami Cancer Institute, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, adding:
“New Publication | Journal of the American College of Surgeons
Really excited to share our new paper looking at what happens to patients’ working lives after a GI cancer diagnosis and how job disruption can set off a chain reaction of insurance instability and financial strain.
In this study, we found that employment disruption is a major downstream consequence of GI cancer and an important pathway linking cancer diagnosis to insurance loss and financial burden. These effects go far beyond treatment and continue to shape patients’ lives long after they leave the hospital.
Grateful to my co-authors for a really meaningful collaboration.”
