“This is what it looks like to turn advocacy into action.
The bipartisan Ovarian Cancer IMPACT Act was introduced in both the House and Senate—the culmination of months of work led by Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance’s Center for Public Policy. Huge shout-out to Chad Ramsey, OCRA’s VP of Policy, and his team who worked with patients, clinicians, advocates, policy experts, partner organizations and congressional offices to take an ambitious idea, make it stronger, build consensus around it and ultimately help turn it into federal legislation.
The IMPACT Act is designed to expand access to genetic counseling and testing, strengthen education about hereditary cancer risk and evidence-based risk-reduction strategies, improve access to gynecologic oncology expertise in underserved communities, and address gaps across the continuum of gynecologic cancer care. We are deeply grateful to Senators Elissa Slotkin and Katie Boyd Britt and Representatives Rosa DeLauro and Don Bacon for the bipartisan leadership necessary to bring this legislation forward—and to the many stakeholders whose expertise helped shape it along the way.
There is much more work ahead. Introduction is an important milestone, not the finish line. But today, I am enormously proud of Chad, our policy team and OCRA. We don’t just advocate for change. We help build it.”
