“Congratulations to Dr. Ashish Manne.
The Dr. Dale Hedges Excellence in Pancreatic Cancer Research Award was established as a tribute to our esteemed colleague and collaborator, Dale Hedges, PhD, who significantly contributed to the Oncology Research Information Exchange Network (ORIEN) before his passing in 2024, just a year after being diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer.
In recognition of his impactful career as a cancer researcher and talented bioinformatician at renowned institutions such as the University of Miami, The Ohio State University, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and most recently Aster Insights, Dale’s family and friends generously donated to the ORIEN Foundation to support pancreatic cancer research within ORIEN.
Funding from this award will aid Dr. Ashish Manne in his ongoing research efforts at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute to define the immunologic and transcriptional landscape associated with expression of Mucin-5AC (MUC5AC) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, with an overarching aim to uncover mechanisms of immune suppression and identify MUC5AC as a potential biomarker of immunotherapy resistance.
This work has strong translational potential to guide patient stratification and treatment strategy to optimize the timing and selection of immunotherapy in MUC5AC-expressing tumors.”
