Association of European Cancer Leagues shared a post on LinkedIn:
“During the European Week Against Cancer, ECL and the Nordic Cancer Union were invited to meet with EU Health Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi. A timely opportunity to put cancer prevention and tobacco control at the heart of the EU health agenda.
One topic dominated our conversation: the rapid spread of novel nicotine products and the tobacco-free generation. The numbers speak for themselves as around one in five young people aged 15–19 who consume tobacco and nicotine products started out by regularly using e-cigarettes, pointing to a clear gateway effect that demands urgent policy action.
As the EU moves towards revising its tobacco control legislative framework, ECL and member organisations are urging that e-cigarettes, heated tobacco, and nicotine pouches are brought fully within scope. The science is clear. The EU must respond.
We thank Commissioner Várhelyi for the time and engagement, and look forward to continued collaboration as these discussions progress.”
