Ashutosh Mishra: WCLS 2025 and Visit to Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre

Ashutosh Mishra, Robotic and Minimally Invasive Surgical Oncologist and Associate Professor, at AIIMS Delhi, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Participation at the World Cancer Leaders’ Summit 2025, Melbourne, Australia (WCLS25) and  institutional visit to Peter Mac Cancer Centre, University of Melbourne.

Thrilled to have attended the World Cancer Leaders’ Summit 2025 in Melbourne, Australia, held from 18-20 November—a truly global gathering with over 400 thought leaders, innovators, and partners unified in the vision for equitable cancer control worldwide.

Honoured to have represented the Delhi Oncology Forum and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, and to have had meaningful conversations with UICC President Ulrika Årehed Kågström, upcoming President HE Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, Treasurer Gonzalo López-Cuevas, Dr Cary Adams, Muriel Auclaire, Serine and other leaders shaping the future at UICC.

It was inspiring to connect with the Indian contingent, including TMC Mumbai Director Prof. CS Pramesh, AIIMS Guwahati Executive Director Prof. Ashok Kumar Puranik, Mrs Vandana Gupta, Somesh Kumar, Dr Rajkumar, Paridhi Gupta, and other colleagues.

A special thanks to Cancer Council Victoria, VCCC Alliance, Monash Partners Comprehensive Cancer Consortium, and the McCabe Centre for Law and Cancer for their exceptional hosting. The opening ceremony set the tone for the Summit focused on collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the bold launch of the World Cancer Declaration (2025–2035)—a game-changing framework to reduce the cancer burden globally.

During the summit, I also had the opportunity to visit Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre—Australia’s largest public-sector cancer centre, renowned for its world-class multidisciplinary care, groundbreaking research, and commitment to innovation in cancer prevention and treatment. Truly an inspiring experience to witness the passion and expertise driving progress at Peter Mac.

The Summit was held in partnership with WHO, IARC, and IAEA, coming at a pivotal moment following the 4th UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs, with new global priorities shaping the coming decade. Dr. Shinkafi-Bagudu, as the first African President-elect of UICC, brings a compelling vision of bridging inequities and fostering global collaboration for cancer control.

Treasurer Gonzalo López-Cuevas highlighted the critical role of legislation and advocacy in advancing global cancer control efforts.

Energised by all the insightful discussions and ready to support meaningful action for cancer control and survivorship worldwide.”
