ASCO Advocacy is Joining One Voice Against Cancer

American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) shared a post on LinkedIn:

ASCO Advocacy was honored to join One Voice Against Cancer and other advocates today on Capitol Hill to deliver a clear message: Congress must act now to make cancer research and prevention a top priority in the FY27 Labor-HHS spending bill.

Federal investment in cancer research is one of the most powerful ways the government delivers for the American people- saving lives, accelerating medical breakthroughs, strengthening our workforce, and driving economic growth. While decades of research have helped more Americans survive cancer than ever before, the fight is far from over. Cancer remains the nation’s second leading cause of death and is expected to claim approximately 626,000 lives this year alone – nearly 1,715 people every single day.

At the same time, scientists are ready to do more. Demand for research funding at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) is higher than at any other NIH institute, yet funding constraints mean that NCI can award fewer than 1 in 10 promising research applications. Breakthroughs are waiting, but only if Congress gives researchers the tools they need.

Research alone is not enough. Prevention saves lives today. Nearly 45% of cancer deaths this year could be prevented through evidence-based prevention and early detection strategies.

That’s why we’re urging Congress to increase cancer research and prevention funding in Fiscal Year 2027 appropriations by allocating $51.3B for The National Institutes of Health, $7.99B for National Cancer Institute (NCI), $1.5B for Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), and $482.9M for Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Cancer Prevention and Control.

Join ASCO Advocacy by urging your lawmakers to pass legislation that prioritizes federal cancer research via the ACT Network.
