American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Today, ASCO is proud to participate in One Voice Against Cancer’s Day of Action urging Congress to pass a final FY2026 Labor-HHS spending bill with the highest possible increases for cancer research and prevention programs.
Federal cancer research represents American government at its best—saving lives, driving innovation, strengthening our medical workforce, and fueling economic growth. Although a record number of Americans are surviving cancer today due to previous research investments, cancer is still the nation’s #2 killer and will claim the lives of an estimated 618,000 Americans this year alone, which equates to almost 1,690 deaths per day.
Not only is cancer research important, but so is prevention—nearly 45% of cancer deaths that will occur this year can be prevented using evidence-based prevention and early detection strategies, many of which are supported by the Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) Division of Cancer Prevention and Control (DCPC).
We’re calling on Congress to increase cancer research and prevention funding in FY26 appropriations by providing at least:
- $47.2 billion for The National Institutes of Health
- $7.374 billion for the National Cancer Institute (NCI)
- $1.5 billion for Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H)
- $417.5 million for Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Cancer Prevention and Control
Join us by sending a message to your lawmaker.”
