“New in CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians
This systematic review and meta-analysis examined how well nonpharmacologic interventions (NPIs) reduce distress, anxiety, and depression in adult patients with solid tumors and their family caregivers.
NPIs can provide short-term benefits for patients with cancer and modest effects for family caregivers. Given limited resources and uncertain durability beyond 3 months, priority should be given to tailored, low-burden support and possibly should include maintenance strategies (e.g., boosters, hybrid delivery).
Collaboration among the clinician, patient, and family caregiver triad can help integrate these approaches into routine care and achieve the best possible outcomes.
