Art delaCruz, Chief Operating Officer at American Cancer Society, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I just passed my 100-day milestone as COO of the American Cancer Society!
When I started this role, my hope was that I’d continue my streak of being part of an organization that meets my desire to join and build community, collaborate with others around a shared identity and purpose, and contribute to making a difference in this world. ACS has presented those in spades.
And I’m continuously learning that I have a lot to learn about cancer. Much of the data has been sobering – more than 2 million people will be diagnosed with cancer this year, and approximately 18.6 million people are living with or have survived cancer.
But there’s also hope: For the first time, we’re seeing a 70% 5-year survival rate for all cancers combined! In addition to all the experts contributing to research, advocacy, prevention, early detection, supportive services, and cancer care are more than 1 million volunteers who give their time to our mission.
I’m absolutely blown away by how many people are committed to improving the lives of people with cancer and their caregivers. And I’m more convinced than ever that I am in the right place at the right time. Thank you to every person who is responsible for the progress in this fight. It’s an honor to seize this moment with you and rise to the occasion of ending cancer as we know it, for everyone.
Ringing in 100 days with awesome company at the 2027 California Spirit event.”
